A friend said his ancestral village was in China, Guangdong Province, Kaiping City, Changsha District and mentioned something about Lougang as the village name. The Google map he sent me was confusing, in that yes, it was Guangdong Province, but not exactly close to Kaiping City. I investigated.
He sent me a Google map with Tangkou Park highlighted. The village was across the river and north north east. My first remark was that the village had rows of houses all neatly aligned, very unlike an old village. It looks like a brand new village. In fact, Tangkou Park is about 8 km due west of Kaiping City. This makes a lot of sense. What was once a small fishing village in his father’s time is now a large city of 700,000 people, the size of Winnipeg. The Changsha District has 125,000 people alone. The maps I used include maps.baidu.com and maps.google.com

Here are maps of Guangdong Province, Kaiping City, Changsha District. The Changsha District has a Changsha Park 长沙公园, which is easy to see, as well as Changsha Road West and East, past the Guangdong Changsha Teacher’s Subsidiary Elementary School (Guangdong Changshi FuXiao 广东长师附小) which ends at DongXing Zhong Road 东兴中路。 It is a long road.

It is very evident that Kaiping City is not small, and that the Changsha District is a big road and not a small village.

My friend did reference a Lougang Village, but it turns out this is a local district society name Lóu Gāng Shè Qū Jū Wēi Huì 广东省 江门 开平市 长沙街道 楼冈社区居委会. I could not find any further info on this society name or place.
