Toronto Police Service online parking complaint, tps.on.ca/core I could not understand the URL from their automated message
I see a car parked on the grass portion of the boulevard, between the sidewalk and the road, which is very illegal. not to mention a lack of manners and common sense. I call up the City of Toronto, 311, who then relays me to the Toronto Police parking authority. The not-so-helpful automated machine says I can now fill out an online form instead of waiting on the phone. Great, but I, as a native speaker, cannot understand the URL, and a Google search reveals nothing. Is it:
ttf.on.ca/core or
tts.on.ca/core
Both turned out to be incorrect. After going to the main Toronto Police Site I see it on their front page. It turns out to be:
tps.on.ca/core
For an experienced web user and native English speaker, I am sure that others have had the same usability issue. Once I got talking to a live person at the Police Service, I tell her about this usability error, and she says that she has been doing this for 30 years and has never had anyone tell her this problem. No matter that this web page is very recent. Oh well, I tried.
I am sure that the Toronto Police Services tried their best. They know what they are talking about, but the rest of us do not. I called the city of Toronto about a parking complaint, and was told to go to a web site that I was unfamiliar. Why would I guess that the Toronto Police would handle this complaint? Further why would I link the Toronto Police Service to the unknown URL on the automated message? This is all very unclear.
