Icky maybe, but if insects are eating your vegetables, then it must be healthy to eat. These are photos the Spotted Cucumber Beetle, Diabrotica undecimpunctata howardi, spotted on our Chinese vegetables, jiecai, a leafy green, from the local Chinese store. It was dead.
Insects were her long before humans and will be here long after. While they may be smaller and perhaps less intelligent, I am confident that they will conquer. We need to coexist and not be so squeamish about insects. Perhaps, like other parts of the world, we may eventually eat them as an excellent source of protein.
Maybe we should join the likes of Thailand, Viet Nam, Indonesia and other South East Asia in their love of eating insects. I would try it. How about you?
