Minute Maid Orange Juice by Coca-Cola Made it Right

Upset I was, about the state of my orange juice. We buy cartoned Minute Maid orange juice, an the carton I bought was short 100 – 120ml. I sent them an email, provided the necessary info they asked for, and a long two weeks later, they sent me coupons for orange juice. Thanks for that, though there was no communications for two weeks, during which I thought that the company was ignoring me.

I bought Minute Maid orange juice 1.75L, poured the contents into a 1.75L Simply Orange container and found I was short 100-120ml. I do hate getting ripped off by manufacturers. Toronto, Canada. Photo by Don Tai

Usually Minute Maid orange juice 1.75L, poured into a 1.75L Simply Orange container should reach almost all the way to the top. Both containers are the 1.75L. Toronto, Canada. Photo by Don Tai

We, here in Toronto, Canada, cannot grow oranges and thus we have no freshly squeezed orange juice (OJ). Instead we buy cartoned, from concentrate OJ. As usual, I bought 3 cartons of Minute Maid OJ, the one with added calcium. I find, however, that the paper carton does not look very good, so I usually use the plastic container from a previously purchased “Simply Orange” OJ, also made my Coca-Cola. Both OJs, the Minute Maid and the Simply Orange, are exactly 1.75L. The Simply Orange container is clear polyethelene PET and better made and looks much better than the Minute Maid paper carton.

What I usually do is after I wash out the Simply Orange Container, I open the Minute Maid carton and pour the Minute Maid OJ into the empty Simply Orange container. As they are both rated at 1.75L the contents of Minute Maid OJ should fit exactly into the Simply Orange container. Unfortunately on this purchase, I was short about 100-120ml.

On the web i went, found the Minute Maid Canada site and launched a complaint. A day later they asked me for more specifics about my purchase, which I provided. They returned a standard email saying they would get in touch. Two weeks later I still received no email nor any further communications. I had thought they were not going to do anything for me. A day later I received a form letter with three coupons for 1.75L Minute Maid OJ. Thanks for correcting a wrong Coca-Cola, but your communications could be a bit faster.

On a side note, many years ago I did a blind taste test on the kids to determine the best tasting OJ. Of course freshly squeezed OJ was best, followed by Oasis, Tropicana, Simply Orange, Minute Maid, and lastly NoFrills NoName brand. While Minute Maid is in the middle of the pack, it is affordable. With the exception of Oasis, long gone are the brands that offer pulp, which we prefer. We need more roughage anyway.

If you feel you got cheated by a manufacturer I encourage you to write them and complain. They will respond. If they do not then you have the right to boycott their product. Coca-Cola passed this test, though at over 2 weeks it took them a while.
