It is probably not so clear cut, but what was once a unified World Trade Organization WTO, appears to want to split into two camps, based on their form of government. On one side is the democratic Western group, now countered by China and Russia in the totalitarian group. This cleaving seems to be necessary because of fundamental differences of the independence of companies from their governments.

In the recent 2018 Web Summit interview has Tim Berners-Lee, father of the Internet, lamenting the sorry state of the internet. TimBL has set up the World Wide Web Foundation, which espouses openness, freedom of speech and democracy. I just do not see the web this way. The internet is a communications tool that allows access to information, very much like a library. Who gets to enter the library and what information the library houses is controllable. I do not see TimBL’s lofty internet objectives coming to fruition. In China Xi jinping XJP has asked all its people for total loyalty to the Communist Party. As a communications tool the Internet can and does serve XJP’s purpose, and more. In the view of the CCP the Internet is also a tool to benefit society.

China’s leader Xi Jinping, has asked Chinese people for total and utter loyalty to the Chinese Communist Party, the CCP above all else. He has pushed this philosophy in all aspects of Chinese life.

The implications of this philosophy on all and including international companies is that the CCP is part of the board and an integral part of the company. A Chinese company that does not follow the lead of the CCP cannot continue to do business and will eventually fail due to government policies or an outright bad on business.Therefore when it comes to resisting CCP pressures, companies really have no choice in the matter.

Infrequently there comes an essay from a high level Chinese government official that somewhat departs from the Chinese Communist Party line of thought. Authors of these essays must be very careful as such articles could, now or in the future, be used to investigate and or incarcerate. A fine balance is always required. This 2017.07.21 article by Luo Jianbo, the head of the China policy centre at the Central Party School, walks this fine line, and with eloquent writing. I hope that this essay will not be taken in the wrong way and result in his removal, or worse.

As Xi Jinping has now removed his term limits within the Chinese constitution, this solidifies his hold on power until he dies or choses to leave. Even before this historic change in China’s constitution it was clear that Xi has a stronghold on China. This directly affects how government officials implement directives and the effect on the Chinese people themselves. An interesting observation, to say the least.
Interesting is how the Chinese government has changed in its implementation of general directives. It seems like government officials react faster and harder, and even overreact to policy implementations. These implementations are understandable, in a way, because government officials do not question or tweak directives, but carry out their orders, possibly overdoing it.
I thought that it would be appropriate that I start collecting Xi jinping quotes, as he will be immortalized in Chinese history.
