Moved, I did, from Site5, to A2. The last 21 hrs was a wet and wild ride all without the protection of my trusty .htaccess file, the one with my Ip ban list. Within that time, 21 hrs, I received a total of 33 spam comments. Usually I receive only one or two. It is clear that without protection I would be inundated by comment spam.
Of course these IPs are only the ones that comment spammed me. There are many more that use their bots to do content scraping, trying to break into my site, trick my host provider, etc. There are too many to list.
Platy tropical fish learn to eat their vegetables. Toronto, Canada, Photo1 by Don Tai
Eeat they do, after learning that the green wavy thing in their tank is edible, and that it tastes good, too. Yes, young tropical fish need to learn, on their own, that vegetables are edible and good for them. Unfortunately there is little in terms of communications, that one can do to actively teach them. As with my past goldfish, my six platies, 2 males and 4 females, after a few days, have learned on their own. There are a few tips.
It sounds like a very common thing to me. You post some content, you want others to comment, comments invite bots, you want a Captcha question. In D8 by default this is turned off. Unfortunately in Drupal 8 it is also not easy to find this setting.
To add Captcha to Drupal 8 Comments one must:
– Goto “admin/config/people/captcha/captcha-points”
– Click ” + Add Captcha Point” button at top of page
– Use “comment_comment_form” as Form ID
Domain Crawler hit my server a 500 transaction attack today, using 5 IP addresses, all from Sweden. They scraped me hard! Their user agent is “DomainCrawler/3.0 (info@domaincrawler.com; http://www.domaincrawler.com/dontai.com)”. I have banned all these IP addresses with their last octet. Good riddance.

Humans being humans, shudder when confronted with long, boring end user agreements, or EUAs. I am pretty sure sites and the legal profession knowingly takes advantage of this when they write them. It is important, however, to understand the agreement, as this does affect your privacy.
Jenny Afia, a privacy lawyer and partner at Schillings law firm in London, Uk, took it upon herself to rewrite Instagram’s EUA so that preteens and teens could understand what expectations they are signing up for when using Instagram. The original interview was with the Washington Post.
Beijing PM2.5 Air Pollution particles lodged in face mask material, under an electron microscope, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Liu Yong, photo2
Fool, it does not take, to believe that the terrible air pollution in Beijing and Northern China, is not fog, and is hazardous to your health. These images are taken with an electron microscope proves the point.
Liu Yong (刘勇), doctoral student from the Beijing University of Chemical Technology (北京化工大学) took these photos of face mask material after about 8 hours of use. The pollution particles lodged into the face mask material was analyzed for hazardous materials. Found were calcium carbonate (碳酸钙), iron oxide (氧化铁), sulfate (硫酸盐)。 The masks are MaiXingRen 霾星人 brand, though the article does not specifically state this.
Kenmore®/MD 30” Freestanding Self-Clean Gas Range in White, from Sears. It works very well.
Two years ago I was thinking about buying my first gas stove. A question we had was “How likely is it that we could blow up our house using a gas stove?” I asked a friend if it was possible to blow up your house using a gas stove. He said it was possible, but highly unlikely.
Indeed, we did buy a Sears gas stove and have been happy with its performance. The stove can get your pot really hot, but with lots of control. I doubt we would go back to an electric stove.
It originates from German, Schlimmbesserungen: bad improvements
-making sth. worse by trying to make it better
-An intended improvement that has the opposite effect (the adjective schlimm can mean anything from “bad” to “malicious”; the noun Besserung means “improvement”–literally “betterment”) source
Today there are so many supposed improvements that actually make things worse. There are so many.
For example the Toronto Star changed their online site to a smartphone design. I use a PC and there was so much wasted space that I decided to not go back. Schlimmbesserung strikes again.
Students forced to write exams on their school field in suburban Tangshan, Hebei province, when the government closed their school. Terrible.
I‘m not sure why the principal of this school would believe that it is Ok to force students to write their exams outside on their field, when the government closed their school. Some people don’t think. I would be livid if this happened to my kids.
Why would the principal of the school defy government orders for the school closure? He should be reprimanded for risking the health of the students.
Why is today so special? It looks like two separate groups tried their own brute force login attacks on my site, each using a different technique. There were a total of 510 login attempts today on my site.
The first technique is to use a low number of IPs, but try numerous times. UA: “Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:40.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/40.0”
