Traditional socks, top, with the good side outside, serged seams on the inside. Socks for sensitive skin, bottom, good side on the inside, serged seams on the outside. Are you confused yet? Toronto, Canada. Photo1 by Don Tai.
Take for granted, we do, something that is, literally, low on the prestige scale of clothing. At least shoes are on the outside, with their shiny leather, and can be seen and noticed. Socks are hidden by pant legs and shoes, far from drawing attention to themselves. In the summer socks are eschewed altogether. How is that for gratitude? This is one downtrodden product. Big Weed has sensitive skin, and when I started making fleece socks she told me the design was all wrong for her. She wanted something she could not buy. I was intrigued.
I have Bell Fibe 15/10 on twisted pair into my house, Toronto, Ontario, but the upload speed is .67mbps of the advertised 10mbps. This summer Bell trenched my street to install fiber optic cable. They left the fiber optic cable zip tied to the side of my house. After 2 months wait I am trying to find out when Bell will install fiber optic into my house so I can get 10mbps upload, but they cannot give me an answer. photo by Don Tai

It has been 2.5 years since we bought our Kenmore 30″ freestanding self-clean gas stove from Sears. The stove is item # is 223 674 132 10 as well as 790-74132. Recently the center burner of our 5 burners has become difficult to ignite. Here is how to clean it.
Get, I do, a lot of referrer spam on my site. I’m pretty sure that every site gets referrer spam, they are ubiquitous. Usually I have already banned them and they are usually from Russia, such as xrus, dealing with lovely, nubile, young Russian women. These I treat like background noise: I glance at the error 403 and move on. Then occasionally, about once a month, I get a bona fide referrer spam marketing campaign, where someone really wants to make a negative impression on both my Google Analytics and myself. I then find and ban them.
There is always the first snowfall that is somewhat startling. For us non-believers this is the irrefutable evidence that winter is on its way. Oh, no, as we lament the passing of summer and warmer temperatures. Today is -2C, 60-70kph winds. Cold.

All large companies in China have a union, but it is not a group that represents workers against the company’s management. Unlike in North America, and more closely following the Japanese labour union model, China’s labour unions are Communist Party members, usually under the control of management. It is ironic that Walmart’s labour union, aligned with Walmart management, are also Communist Party members, there to suppress labour unrest for the good of their foreign overlords. All this in modern day China.
Love Canada, I do. The people are generally very nice, though there are exceptions. In general we treat everyone equally. The air is generally very clean and the streets similarly. We have lots of green space and the kids love playing in our parks. Crime is low and we generally do not have a violence or gun problem. Our political system is very stable. Our legal system is fair and impartial.
Highlight modes are dependent on the file types you are editing. They are useful because they highlight different types of text into different colours. For example it is useful to put all comments into a specific colour. Important language specific keywords can be highlighted in a different colour. Usability wise your brain will then be able to ignore unimportant text and concentrate on important text, simply by colour.
I work a lot with .htaccess files in Ubuntu 16.04, so wanted a highlight mode for .htaccess. Someone has created one and was available for download, called apache.lang. Unfortunately I could not find out how to put this download into the right directory. Here are my instructions.
Recycled soap looks like white chocolate with nougat. Yummy it is not. Clean, it is. Macro shot of a cake of soap. Photo by Don Tai
Looks are deceiving, here in Toronto, Canada. This is recycled soap that I partially melted in a double boiler, cooled, then let sit for a couple of months to get nice and dry. It does look like white milk chocolate with nougat bits, but one bite would tell you otherwise. Most of it is made from Ivory soap!
Globe and Mail newspaper is testing changes to their comments section. The existing font and style, left, is much more readable than the new and hip but less readable version, on the right.
Leave it alone, sometimes, is the better option. Or the more vernacular “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. The Globe and mail newspaper is testing changes to their comments system. They have decided to brighten up the icons, but instead of using black for text they have gone for grey. The grey, for me, is much more difficult to read. Maybe the use of grey will prompt for less comments.
