Toronto Public Library has 3d printing for a very reasonable price. So innovative!
Yesterday I attended a course at the Toronto Public Library (TPL) called Introduction to 3D Design. The topic is broad, so we did not cover much in the 1.5 hour class. Still, it was a good introduction, enough to get me going on research on the topic.
The TPL has created Digital Innovation Hubs within their libraries, one of which is near my house. These are special rooms within the library that house specialized computers, 3d printers, Arduino units and much more. I was especially interested in the 3D Design & Printing. There are 2 classes to take, one of which I did yesterday, and another which I am booked in late August.
Sears Kenmore Self-Standing 30″ gas stove model number 223 674 132 10 as well as 790-74132, gas burner, cap on, will not ignite and needs cleaning. Igniter is on the right, in white, with a center electrode. Toronto, Canada, Photo by Don Tai
It has been 2.5 years since we bought our Kenmore 30″ freestanding self-clean gas stove from Sears. The stove is item # is 223 674 132 10 as well as 790-74132. Recently the center burner of our 5 burners has become difficult to ignite. Here is how to clean it.
Viking Auto Dryer by the T. Eaton Company, 1995, front control panel. Photo by Don Tai
Dead it was, our dryer, a Viking Auto Dryer, from the T. Eaton Company, circa 1995, model number EDX22RW1181, front load, Toronto, Canada, hopelessly turning and turning, all without heat. Of course our clothes were not dry after an hour. Wife was not impressed and put the dryer at the top of my “to do” list. A solution was required before the next weekend load. Nothing stops for laundry or cooking.
This Oster meat slicer model 319-66 is not professional but does the job well enough. It is a little hard to adjust and clean, but was inexpensive.
Big Boss likes to stir fry, and so if I cut the meat too thickly, I catch hell. Yes, small but terrifying, and I am not talking about the knife. We want fresh meat sliced very thinly for Chinese stir fry, or for Korean hot pot. Thin enough to be translucent. How do you do this with fresh meat? Buy pork loin, drain liquids, cut in half, freeze, slice with meat slicer, and then if you wish, vacuum seal in small bags, then refreeze.
Cardinal watches has been around for quite a long time. I came across a women’s Cardinal watch, but the watch battery was dead. Frustratingly, the rear bezel has no notch, raised lip or pry area, so opening it in order to replace the battery was difficult. Who would make a watch back like this, that would make changing the battery difficult and dangerous?
Not new, global warming, as a topic for conversation. Oh no. But I fear that it may be unfair for First World countries to point the finger at developing countries around the world and tell them to reduce emissions. They have a valid point. Let us look at CO2 emissions per capita instead.
Talk about a huge inequality. Even in the top 10 countries for CO2 emissions per capita, the bottom 2, Poland and the UK, use less than half of the top 4 polluters.
Free, the Internet should be, freedom to express oneself, is the standard thinking of most people. No one should be able to censor content. All should be able to read whatever they wish, whatever they can find. China, with their “Great Firewall of China”, does censor content for their 1.4B citizens, and is widely condemned for their radical actions. I am rethinking censorship of the Internet. In light of the rise of ISIS and other terrorist organizations maybe we should consider censorship for certain situations.
Replacing fan and light switches on a San Yang Pai CY-760 range hood. Toronto, Canada, photo1 by Don Tai
My San Yang Pai model CY-760-A range hood came with our house. Overall it is a good range hood suitable for Chinese stir fry cooking. We did not buy it new, so I do not know exactly how old it is, but I estimate it to be about 20 years old. The on/off switches were giving trouble, and the left fan stopped turning on. These switches are in constant use.
Worried, I was, when I heard news that the older red and white OHIP cards are now invalid. This is not true. If you received a notice from OHIP that you need to renew, then do so. Otherwise there are no worries.
If you are not sure, then call the ServiceOntario INFOline at 1-866-532-3161 and ask. You may have to wait a bit, so use your phone’s headset. They will search your card number and tell you. Red and white cards are still valid.
Older American Standard Ballcock fill valve. Use Google Search images to find your valve type. There are many different ones.
Recently the water pipes on my street were refurbished. as a result a lot of gunk they scraped off was flushed through my water system. Shortly after my older American Standard toilet started acting up, like it was not getting water into the tank. While there are a lot of sites and videos that show you how to replace the ballcock fill valve there are none that show you how to repair it. Here is how I repaired mine. It was very easy.
