Ridiculous is the fact that I could not open a paper carton of Neilson 2% chocolate milk without a knife. I have done this since I was a child. They used too much glue in the opening mechanism, so using only hand force, it will not open. How terrible is that? I’ll need to use a knife and cut it open. This makes the container more dangerous and certainly not safe for kids.
I usually grab both ears of one side of the carton, separate and bend back the two ears. This should open the paper carton. Bending the opening forward should create a spout, of which you use to pour your milk.
With this carton when I bend back the ears the carton does not open and I cannot make the spout.
This is old tech and should work without instructions.
I have sent off a complaint request to Neilson Canada.

recently I received a letter from Neilson with a coupon for a 1L carton of chocolae milk. Thanks Neilson for making this right.
Thanks for your post Don. We have also experienced this problem on 2L Homo carton. Ourselves we dont buy ctns but our elderly friend does and she continues to have the problem. one year ago I tried it myself and I had the same experience you did. we also called Neilson and they sent coupons. However 1 year later the problem is the same. Shame on Neilsons.
