I have an old computer and an old printer, but they still work and I’m poor, so here’s how to do it. My HP Laserjet P1005 is pretty solid and still works. Instructions are always changing, so this is only good up to 2021 Dec.
There is an ongoing debate as to how to lose weight. The calorie restriction method says to eat less. The Hormone theory says this is too simplistic and advocates fasting, or time restricted eating. Which is correct?
Calorie Theory
Fat = calories in – calories out
This equation is critical to the calorie Theory
The calorie theory says that to reduce fat you need to reduce calories in (what you eat) to less than calories out (what you burn). People are encouraged to eat less in order to lose weight. For example if you eat 100 units and burn 200 units, your body will then use 100 units of fat to make up for the shortfall, and you will lose weight.
Lat pulldown rope, or triceps rope, for use on a cable strength training machine, home made, 39″ long. Photo by Don Tai
There’s really not much to the lat pulldown rope, sometimes called a triceps rope. A lat pulldown rope attaches to a strength training cable machine, high up, so you can pull downward and exercise your latissimus dorsi, or lower back muscles. Common exercises include the lat pulldown and face pulls. It is just a rope with an attachment point in the middle. Here’s how I made mine.
Weider 8530 Home Gym, has two weight stacks of 106lb each.
A gracious neighbour gifted me this Weider 8530 home gym. As I work out daily I am glad to have it. The home gym is from 2002, but works just as well now as then. I’ll document what I did to make it better, and some of the caveats to owning and using the system.
Home made lat pulldown bar, made of stainless steel tubing and 1/4 inch eyebolt. Closeup shot. Photo by Don Tai
As I prefer to use wood, I don’t often need to drill into metal. That said metal has qualities that are very beneficial. I need a shorter lat pulldown bar for my home gym. Instead of buying one I decided to make it. It is, after all, a pipe with an eyebolt.
Small, but still an operation, left me with a bit of fear of the unknown. I welcome new experiences, be they good or bad. Odd, is it not?
The wait was not overly taxing, but a bit long. I tried deep breathing, but in the end this did not lower my BP. Still, I did not have anxiety within my thoughts. I moved from one waiting area to another. The ear protection helped me block out the busy and unfamiliar outside stimulus. I had prepared well.
Inglis RBF175RA fridge, brand name logo, right side lamp shade. Photo by Don Tai
Over twenty years ago I moved into my house, replete with an avocado coloured fridge, an Inglis model RBF175RA, and a bunch of other old appliances. Through the years most have been replaced, but this fridge lives on. Getting older, the fridge has had trouble controlling its temperature, but today I repaired it with a new cold control thermostat replacement.
Galanz Soymilk maker DP15002C. There is no online user manual. Photo by Don Tai
A neighbour gave me this Galanz Soymilk maker machine 格兰仕 豆浆机, DP15002C, and I like to drink soymilk (豆浆). I thought that it would be pretty simple to find the user manual. Unfortunately, there is no user manual for this machine. While Google Search has almost nothing on this machine other than where to buy it, I did find a lot more on Baidu Search. There’s a lot more marketing and hype about this machine that actual useful information, such as a user manual.
Canada Election 2021 DRO kit, ballot box, ballots, lots of papers. Photo by Don Tai
In Canada’s elections, there are hundreds of polling locations. Each polling location must have one or more polls, where a Canadian citizen over the age of 18 will receive a ballot, mark their chosen political candidate on the ballot, and finally drop the ballot into the ballot box. At the end of the night after polls close, the ballots in the ballot box are counted. Results for each candidate are then phoned into the local polling office. Results are then tallied up to larger and larger geographic levels.
Very brave, Alina Chan is. She postulates a theory that CoVid-19 might be “pre-adapted” for humans, and then gets lambasted from the for and against sides by fellow scientists and others on the internet. I am surprised that scientists would judge her work so harshly, even though she just puts out the theory and is searching for proof
