Call me suspicious, but it is simply too convenient for governments and large corporations to track private citizens. I feel that our rights and privacy are being violated, yet there is not much of a outrage amongst the public. It is very easy because so many of us love to carry around our very own tracking devices: personal cellular phones.
I am sure that we did not intend to give up our privacy, but that is the end result. Leave your cell phone on and your phone provider knows exactly where you are located. Leave your wifi on and roam between free networks. Turn on your wifi to receive the internet and some ISP will track you. it is that convenient.
Many days, I did struggle with this problem. My old 2010 HTC Google Nexus One simply would not connect to Ubuntu 14.04. A couple of weeks ago I gave up. Today, I had the brilliant idea to try connecting the Nexus One to Windows 7, and by a fluke of connecting to Win7, Ubuntu 14.04 also detected it. Why did this happen, I do not know, but I am thankful for these lucky flukes of the universe. Praise Zena Princess Warrior, for her good luck and intervention.
Struggle, I do, using Google Chrome and Google+ Hangouts Chat. My Ubuntu 14.04.2 system simply will not display the integrated webcam, and gives me a black screen instead. Apparently this is a known problem. I was expecting that since both products are from Google, that they would work well together, but this is not the case.
My webcam has always worked. Cheese and GUVcview has always worked from day 1. I recently installed Skype and it worked right from the install. Using Firefox I can go to plus.google.com, login and my webcam works. Strange.
After hitting so many brick walls with Eclipse and Android development I finally gave in and installed Android Studio. No, I do not like being forced by Google to change development environments, but as Google seems to no longer support Eclipse, it was too difficult for me to handle Eclipse, Ubuntu, Android, as well as the lack of support by Google for Eclipse in their developer.Android.com site. There were too many variables that, as a newby, I got stuck too many times.

Imperial Deluxe sewing machine, circa 1966, no model number
Tried I did in an extensive Google Search to find the model number for this sewing machine, but I could not. In fact, I could not even find a single images that was exactly the same machine. Yes, there are many that are similar, Imperials with three large knobs on the right side, but not quite. In this, the great age of the Internet, there is still objects, products and knowledge out there for us to discover and publish. This Imperial Deluxe sewing machine is one of them. I date this Imperial Deluxe sewing machine to circa 1966-1970, as compared to other Imperials in Eaton’s catalogues here in Canada. If you have the same sewing machine, leave a message for me.
Call me crazy, but as the self-appointed archivist for Imperial sewing machines on the internet, I thought it would be great to display some ads from Eatons and Simpsons, here in Canada. These ads are from the 1960s, and are really good for time dating your machine. I thank the Library and Archives Canada for posting these resources online, for the betterment of the world. Note that the Archive only has specific years, namely 1965, 1967, 1968, 1971, 1975, so this limits how well we can date Imperial sewing machines here in Canada. My very reliable Sony DSC-H2 digital camera all of a sudden threw an error, saying the Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo had a “format error”. A quick Google search says it is a not so common problem but not to worry. You just use the camera to format the stick and you’ll be good. Unfortunately all the images on the stick will also be wiped out. I’d rather recover my images before I format the stick, thank you very much.
The problem with Google search is that there are simply too many results that are not useful. Further searching and poking around yielded a utility called Memory Card File Rescue Tool, 16mb, published by Sony. This seems really reliable.
Easy it will not be, for this path I know will be rocky. I tried installing Eclipse and the Android ADT on Windows 7 and got really stuck. Now that I’m on Ubuntu there is so much more help, but the problems are still many, varied and difficult to solve. I’ll chart the course here.
