Damned if you do and damned if you do not. Yamato Tanooka, a 7 year old Japanese kid, was throwing rocks as people and cars, so his parents let him out of the car as punishment. A few minutes later he ran off and was lost in the woods of Hokkaido for near a week. He was eventually found by the Japanese Army, dehydrated but unharmed.
It is difficult to raise kids, especially boys. Often they are unwilling to listen to their parents and sometimes they need to be taught using unique opportunities. Almost all the time these opportunities turn out to be great learning experiences.
For Yamato Tanooka’s parents, this turned out to not be the case. Sad, really, that he would run off and not be found for almost a week. There are repercussions when things do not go according to plan, as Takayuki Tanooka, his father, found out.
Raising a child is challenging to any parent, but I still side with the father. Tough call, and there is still so many more years to go. Parents have a rough slog. Yamato Tanooka is one independent kid.
Gambatte, Takayuki Tanooka.
