Try, as I might, I cannot understand why the Beijing government would limit the number of foreigners that eat at local restaurants. This is in a university area. Yes, China’s National People’s Congress or NPC has started, but do government officials expect trouble from foreign university students?

Wudao Kou is an area very close by at least three large universities in Beijing: Beijing University, Qinghua University and the Beijing Foreign Language Institute.

Why would the Beijing Government limit the number of foreigners to such a small restaurant like Pyro Pizza? Tiny and unknown Beijing restaurant serving foreign food, very far from Tiananmen Square and the NPC, what is there to gain from this?

This source hints that there might be a crackdown coming to China on foreigners. This has been building up for quite some time and would not be surprising. It has been increasingly difficult for foreigners to live in China. China’s economy is better than the rest of the world and Chinese really love foreigners doing “monkey jobs”, where a foreigner seems exotic to Chinese people. In the past there were crackdowns in Sanlitun, Beijing, for seemingly no reason. Wudao Kou seems very similar.

If these restaurant have fire code infractions, then for sure crack down on them. But why crack down on only foreigners?
