Human Physiology and Apparent Lack of Attention to Detail

We are human, there is no denying this. As technology improves and allows us more convenience this also has disadvantages. Human physiology, which we cannot control, is a force that contributes to our behaviour. The less we need to concentrate on something, the more our mind wanders to other aspects of our lives. This propensity is not something we can control. It is autonomous and a built-in feature of our wonderful minds. That said, there are downsides, especially with safety.

Newer phones allow us to program in commonly used numbers, which is very convenient. Over time, where once we could remember the numbers we commonly dial, with this convenience we tend to forget them. It is so simple to push the button to dial the number. This influence of technology on one hand does make our lives easier, but makes our short-term memory lazier.

There are many other examples of the influence of our human physiology.

The same can be said for self-driving-like aids on the way to automonous cars. Cars now have safety features that are more convenient, but our human physiology allows us to think about other things. In a time of crisis we are then unable to react quickly enough to save ourselves. It is this dangerous transition period that we need to be wary.

There is no going around our human physiology. We need to keep this in mind when we implement new technology. Just because new technology is convenient, in the end is its effect overall beneficial? Convenience does not always mean better.
