Spare time, I had, and wanted to see where someone was physically located in China. The place is a small town on the border of Shanxi and Inner Mongolia, on the Yellow River. What were the odds that I could find her exact location and get a satellite photo of her building?
I started using Google Maps, which was pretty helpful. Considering that Google is not allowed in China, they still had maps of the small city and specifically the 1km section of road that interested me. The sat photo showed great detail, as you can see, but the roads from the diagram did not coordinate very well with the sat map. In fact they were really so far off that some roads went underwater, like tunnels.
Shandang Ass Bacon, from Changzhi, Shanxi Province, China. It is preserved donkey meat. 山西世龙食品有限公司 Scan by Don Tai
Returned, she did, and with it some gifts. Bought in Changzhi, Shanxi Province, China, we received 3 packages of Shangdang ass bacon. And no, I am not being crude, as it clearly states, in English, on the package. I believe there is something lost in translation. Ass bacon is the Chinese to English translation, obviously made by a Chinese person in need of further translation experience, of donkey corned meat. Salty, but otherwise tasty.
dailyfeed.co.uk is using an image straight from my site and therefore stealing my bandwidth. I have tried to contact them but cannot find an email address.
One of their articles: http://www.dailyfeed.co.uk/2016/03/13-things-found-every-00s-kids-bedroom/6/ takes an image from my site. Why they are so cheap and not store the image on their site I do not know. I have banned them as a referrer, so hope this will stop.
Theft, and no less. Assholes. Alex Taylor, owner of dailyfeed.co.uk, you are an asshole.
My LG Optimus Net P690 is a small 3.2" 500 mb ram smartphone, which runs much better without bloatware, Google Play Store and the Google suite.
Sometimes certain things “outgrow” their welcome. This was true for the Google Play Store. When the Google Play Store automatically updates itself and take up precious internal memory, uncontrollably loading updates is also a waste of bandwidth and battery power, even when you’ve told it many times to stop, you wonder who is in charge of your phone. That answer, is decidedly Google. Yes, Google is in full command of your phone, and for the average non-tech person there’s not a damn thing you can do about it. I’m going to even the score here, for all the tech people out there.
Chinese input is fun, for the warped mind that I am. Yes, it is exceptionally difficult to learn Chinese, but after that little hurdle, and significant eye strain, it is fun. Chinese input methods on Ubuntu 14.04 is somewhat confusing, as it is very easy to install, both for SunPinyin and Pinyin yet there are bugs. I installed SunPinyin, and when I could not input certain characters, also installed Pinyin. Here are the ones I found, and their fixes.
Air, you really cannot live without it. Literally. Dirty air gets into everything, especially PM2.5 sized. No household air cleaners or air conditioners can get rid of this pollution. I’m sure a house sized hepa filter could do it, but open a door and your air quality would quickly drop. What would life be if you could not go outside?
Anyway, I thought I’d add city air quality readings to my WordPress blog, but I’m only partially satisfied. I actually want 2 cities but can only get one at a time. There are instructions on aqicn.org Air Quality Widget – New Improved Feed
These user agents, or bots, somehow fool and subvert my .htaccess user agent rules and continue to scrape my site. I’ve looked at my htaccess user agent rule many times and don’t know why. The next step is to ban their IP.
AhrefsBot is a large content scraper that hits my site hard, reads robots.txt but ignores it, fools my htaccess, bot is “Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; AhrefsBot/5.0; +http://ahrefs.com/robot/)”

They have not caught on yet, as many Chinese search engines offer no explanation in English of their services, yet their bots are out there crawling all sites on the internet. I am trying to kill as many bots, scrapers, spiders, crawlers, and checkers as possible, and if I don’t find an explanation of what a site does, I’ll ban the user agent from my site. This might seem a little unfair, but I don’t want bots eating my bandwidth, and to have my ISP force me to pay more for hosting, all because they wish to crawl my site.
Not possible, I thought, to royally screw up sardines. There is really not much to them. Remove the head and tail, put into container, add oil, seal, right? Wrong. You also need to remove the scales. These S&F Food Importer sardines are simply terrible. They were so bad that I went back to the grocery store here in Toronto, Canada, and asked for a refund, which I rarely do, and they refused.
Usually I’m working in Ubuntu, so cannot use the PC version of QQ. I’ve had to either switch to Windows or use QQ International through my smartphone. Typing on my smartphone in Chinese and English is challenging and fraught with spelling mistakes. I’m having trouble accurately typing Chinese pinyin on my phone. The alternative is to use QQ with a browser.
You can use the browser version of QQ when you are on ubuntu, but I could not find any instructions on how to do this. Here is what to do:
