After many years of careful use, the headset that came with a long gone Blackberry smartphone lost sound in the right ear. If I wiggled it “just so” the sound would reappear, but with any further movement the sound would again be gone. It was clear that the wire would need to be cut back and the 3.5mm phone plug would need to be replaced. Because I do like the feel and the quality of the headset and mic, this was worthwhile to repair.

Little Weed really wants to learn RC planes. He has been through RC cars but got bored. The challenge of flight has drawn him in. Instead of destroying and losing many planes and lots of cash, it is recommended that we learn on a flight simulator program. To make the interface easier we bought a Dynam RC Flight Simulator USB, a simulated radio, which connects USB to your PC. At $40 I knew it was pretty cheaply made, and I was not surprised when it started glitching. We flew it for a few months before it stopped working, but from the beginning it has issues with reliably connecting to the PC. I knew something was wrong.

Repair Sony Earbud Headphone Wires

Friend Dave had ripped one of the wires on his Sony earbud headphones, MDR-EX38iP, so I decided to fix it. With the help of the Internet he now has a headset back in service.

The wires on these headphones are really very thin and fragile. There is no apparent physical shielding between the signal and ground wires, and twisting like wires together did not get the cut off earbud working. Luckily my friends at Instructables gave me hints to the solution.
