There are more than a few user interface errors on the NoFrills web site. Our family is a frequent shopper at NoFrills, the Canadian grocery store. Thankfully they are much better as a grocery store than they are at building and maintaining their website.

A couple of weeks ago they blocked me because I have an ad blocker. Really? I want to see your advertisement flyer, which is displayed on your site, and because I have an ad blocker you deny me the ability to see your flyer? Is not this counter-productive to my family buying from your store?

Today they have changed their site and included a button selection for province screen. Unfortunately they have used a yellow background on white lettering, making the colour contrast very low and difficult to read.

There are other user interface issues on the site. The user flow is awkward at best. Even as a long-time user I find it problematic, difficult and slow as compared to competing stores. Terrible user interface, terrible colour selection. They need to hire better people and make better choices. Other competing stores use similar software to display their flyer and do not have the same technical issues. Their local competitor, Price Chopper, uses a simple but very reliable PDF format, which I prefer. It displays on any computer and phone and works very well.

At lest they run their grocery store better than their web site.

Addendum 2018 Jul 04: My local NoFrills stopped putting their empty cardboard boxes out front, which I used to take groceries home. I looked up my local store and called the store phone number. It turns out that this is the customer service number in Ottawa, who told me that the stores are franchised and I should talk directly to the store manager. Great.
